Green(er) Energy: LNG

Liquid Natural Gas

Compared to coal, natural gas produces 50-60% fewer carbon dioxide emissions. When burned, natural gas releases up to 20-30% less carbon dioxide than oil. LNG is simply natural gas in a liquid state.  As a fuel, LNG produces relatively low emissions when burned to heat and cool homes, generate electricity, and power vehicles.

LNG is odorless, non-toxic and non-corrosive.  When exposed to the environment, LNG rapidly evaporates, leaving no residue on water or soil.  If spilled, LNG would not result in a slick because 100% of it evaporates, leaving no residue behind.

LNG CONTRIBUTES TO A CLEANER GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT

Sending clean-burning natural gas into the international marketplace helps countries around the globe meet clean air quality standards, which contributes to worldwide efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as more and more coal-fired electricity will be replaced with natural gas.  This is particularly beneficial in countries where access to clean energy is otherwise limited.

Implementation

The basis for the technical development of the LNG-to-Power solution are the existing designs for FSRUs and power barges as well as the current advances in both technologies.

The power barge concept is a proven technology: it satisfies the energy needs of emerging countries and regions quickly and safely. Despite the need for electricity in these regions, feasible ways to implement gas grid or LNG infrastructure has been lacking. As a result, leading energy providers have tended to select oil as their fuel of choice.

Significant quantities of liquid natural gas (LNG) supplies are emerging from production facilities under construction. The increased volume is leading to saturated off-taker markets. As a result, many molecule owners in the LNG sector will have a surplus. Due to these market conditions, LNG suppliers are exploring new market opportunities. One of these opportunities is the small to mid-scale LNG supply chain based on marine transportation. This supply chain segment provides access to remote or underdeveloped markets with limited access to gas supplies.

Our Solution

EMERALD ENERGY’s principal focus is the safe berthing and docking and eventual offloading of natural gas cargoes on rudimentary dockside infrastructure equipped with minimal ancillaries to read such cargoes for power plant consumption or “LNG-to-Power”.

Our fuel conveyance solution is aimed to provide a full chain value supply as it entails a unique method of gas supply without the need to construct large export and import terminals with their associated infrastructure and storage facilities bringing the LNG product, storage and regasification directly to the generating facility.

Our Partners

a team of industry Leaders

EMERALD ENERGY has longstanding relationships with both direct suppliers of LNG (i.e. Shell LNG Marketing & Trade/Exxon Mobil LNG) as well as with the world’s largest independent trader of LNG (i.e. Trafigura).

The Facts

Global Energy Demand Is Growing

• Demand projected to increase by 37% by 2040

• Development of renewables is being outpaced by energy demand growth

Traditional methods of energy production produce greenhouse gases and when compared to coal, LNG greatly reduces emissions. The result is both immediate and long-term benefits for public health and the environment.
